about oils on canvas and linen: |
I have been painting for many years and moved into abstraction early on, at the same
time jumping into the challenge of working large scale.
Often beginning without an image in mind, I am lost but traveling, exploring each mark
and where it takes me. Observant and watchful within myself, experiences weave
together, informing one another. Colors rise to the surface and recede to the depths,
atmospheric spaces emerge, and luminous shapes appear. Gradually the composition
surfaces, and takes hold, bringing with it ideas, memories, emotions.
Painting is a process of discovering and deciding upon the composition as it moves and
evolves with the interactions of colors; it’s about having a back-and-forth dialogue until
life breathes into the piece.
